Let's face it, nothing sends us homo sapiens scurrying to get in shape
and to look good as the advent of summer.
Summer is
synonymous with feeling slim, sexy and slick.
If you
haven't yet gotten into the summer swing of things, a
quick trip to the Fairfield Men's Store will surely put
you in the seasonal mood.
Naresh
Mansukhani and Eugene Venanzi have really outdone
themselves this time. Wow!
Naresh made
me finger the new line of Super 110 through 220 worsted
wools just in from Nick Hilton and Belvest. Unreal how
light, lustrous, soft and smooth these fabrics are.
Great bounce too. Make a fist and crumble the fabric,
release it and it springs back with barely a wrinkle.
Those lines
alone would be enough to carry the season, but then he
whipped out a packet of buttery swatches, the top of the
line from Loro Piana. I know some ladies who would foam
at the mouth to get their hands on a custom-made garment
stylishly cut with this material.
He also
showed me a collection of airy pima cotton trousers in
seven sizzling summer colors.
And silk!
Blazers in Shantung or Dupioni silk, once considered a
cast-off because it's made from the silk of two worms
and hence the slubs or slightly irregular protuberances
on the fabric.
There was
classic silk galore, in solids, hound's tooth and glen
plaid. I nearly melted when I tried on a summer cashmere
and silk blazer. Cashmere in the summer? Who ever
imagined such a thing?
To put it on
and observe myself in the mirror was like being
transported to an elegant garden party and me the
coolest guy in the joint because the women couldn't stop
touching my jacket. It was just about the softest fabric
they had ever felt.
If that
wasn't enough, he showed me jackets of ultrafine,
lightweight wool, gabardine and last but not least, a
blazer fashioned from a blend of silk, linen and wool.
To top it
off he displayed an assortment of Sea Island knits in a
colorful variety of colors. Hilton cotton knits from
Italy featuring Porto Fino collars. Silk knits, linen
shirts and lightweight shoes and slip-ons from Alden.
New handmade silk ties, pocket squares, leather belts
and other accessories up the wazoo.
Needless to
say, I was dazzled by the new arrivals.
Naresh is
all excited about the season and his new collection. He
is also aglow with enthusiasm about his personalized,
come-to-you custom-fitting venture. He will personally
fit any busy gentleman or lady at their home or office.
Like I say,
if you haven't really felt a sense of summer, take the
time to spend a few minutes poking around the Fairfield
Men's Store.
For Father's
Day, or a summer birthday or just something special for
a friend, you sure to find a gentleman's gift that will
please.
If nothing
else, you've got to try on that cashmere and silk
jacket.
To do so is
to understand that the universe is indeed limitless, if
only for a moment. And run your fingers over those Super
wools. They're from another planet.
Enjoy summer shopping!
